The Department of People and Technology at Roskilde University invites applications for a position as Assistant or Associate Professor in Social Psychology and Mental Health. The position is available from August 1, 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Assistant Professor position is limited to four years, whereas the Associate Professor position is a permanent appointment.

Department of People and Technology covers a range of subject areas, broadly focused on human – society – technology interactions and covering topics as sustainable transitions of society, social psychology and education, social entrepreneurship, urban planning, digitalization and data science, welfare, and health studies. The position is based at the Section for Psychology and Education and is linked to the research group Subject, Technology and Social Practice (STP). In STP, basic research in social psychology is combined with innovative applications. The research group focuses on analyzing the experiences and activities across various contexts of human subjects in concrete problems of their everyday life. Through the study of the social organization of human practices (e.g. in a workplace, a childcare center, or a health care practice) the research aims to analyze relations between the challenges of everyday life, perspectives, and technologies.

Responsibilities and tasks
The assistant/associate professor’s main tasks are to undertake research and research-based teaching within the field of research. You will be required to teach, supervise and assess students at BSc and MSc levels and if associate professor also PhD students.

The ideal candidate is expected to:

  • Conduct research within social psychology of everyday life with special emphasis on problems related to mental and psychosocial health
  • undertake teaching in the graduate program of social psychology and learning
  • undertake teaching in the undergraduate programs in the humanities, including psychology, and in the humanities and technology
  • if associate professor, undertake teaching and supervision at postgraduate level
  • regularly publish in national and international quality journals and publishing houses in the field
  • if associate professor, then take responsibility for the guidance and supervision of assistant professors and post docs
  • if assistant professor, to complete the certificate of university teaching and learning program (CUTL) as part of the employment
  • contribute to the administrative responsibilities of the department and academic assessment
  • participate in the department’s communication with the broader public

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent within psychology.

Qualifications within several of the following scientific areas are required:

  • Substantial experience with research within social psychology of everyday life with special emphasis on problems related to mental and psychosocial health.
  • a versatile competence profile anchored theoretically, methodologically, and empirically in psychology
  • an educational background within psychology with psychological research and teaching experience
  • experience and qualifications in Problem-Oriented Project Learning
  • research experience within broader social psychological dimensions of everyday life is appreciated

If aplication as Associate Professor scientific qualifications such as an assistant professor or equivalent in relation to the above mentioned subject areas must be documented.

The ideal candidate will be a visible, communicative and involved participant in the department’s daily activities, in addition to being willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.

Terms of employment
The employment is on full time, 37 hours per week, and you will refer to the Head of Department, Peter Kjær.

The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.

Shortly after the application deadline all applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been selected for assessment.

The shortlisted applicants will be informed about the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will be given the opportunity to comment on the composition of the committee and - later on - their assessment.
