Bioinformatician - Microbial Genomics at DTU Food

Infectious diseases caused by bacterial, viral and parasitic pathogens, including those that are antimicrobial resistant, constitute one of the biggest threats to human and planetary health. The Genomic Epidemiology group at DTU National Food Institute provides advisory service to the Danish Food and Veterinary Administration (FVST), including assistance in analysing genomic data from food borne pathogens and offers a broad range of online and in-house bioinformatic pipelines for analysing bacterial and viral genomes and metagenomes.

We are seeking a candidate for a vacant position as Academic Employee in bioinformatics to provide assistance with genomic analyses of foodborne pathogens to the FVST, assist in maintaining our in-house bioinformatic pipelines and tools and provide ad hoc assistance to the different researchers in the group.

You will be affiliated with the Genomic Epidemiology Research Group, which combines expertise in conventional and molecular microbiology with epidemiology and bioinformatics.

Our expectations of you

Your main responsibility will be to assist in the advisory service to FVST, help to maintain our existing tools and services and provide ad hoc assistance in bioinformatic investigations.

Skills:

  • Experience in coding in python.
  • Experience with Unix-based systems.
  • Extensive knowledge in microbial genomics.
  • Extensive knowledge of existing bioinformatic algorithms and tools.
  • Experience in microbial genomic and metagenomic analyses.

You must hold a master’s degree in bioinformatics or a closely related field, with relevant work experience.

Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

The position is a full-time position. Starting date is 1 January 2026 (or according to mutual agreement).

The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.
