Postdoc i Translationel Farmakologi ved SDU

Post Doc, Sundhedsvidenskab / Syddansk Universitet (University of Southern Denmark) / farmakologi / forskningsprojekt / celle-modeller / Fuldtid / Vikar / Fuldtid / Estimeret lønniveau ca. 41.000 - 45.000 kr/md

The translational pharmacology research group at Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Environmental Medicine (CPPEM), Department of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for a fully funded 2-year postdoctoral position. The position is to be filled from April 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is part of a newly funded project from the Independent Research Fund Denmark, led by Professor Tore Bjerregaard Stage, aiming to understand chemotherapy side effects using state-of-the-art cell-based models.

About the research environment

The research areas of CPPEM span from pharmacoepidemiology to clinical studies, and cell-based basic pharmacology and environmental medicine. Collectively, CPPEM has a strong background in exposure to environmental chemicals, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacogenetics, pharmacokinetics, drug-drug interactions, and therapeutic drug monitoring. Specifically, the translational pharmacology group aims to understand variability in drug toxicity, drug metabolism and drug transport. Examples of this include cell-based models such as induced-pluripotent stem cells, primary human hepatocytes, and clinical studies. The pharmacoepidemiological research group utilizes the world-class Danish registries as well as international data sources to assess pharmacological questions in large populations. The environmental medicine group studies the impact of early life exposures to environmental chemicals. In particular per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is a focus area, with studies of the adverse health effects of exposure, biomonitoring and advising national and international authorities. The analytical chemistry laboratory analyzes concentrations of drugs or environmental chemicals in various matrices.

The project

In the translational group, we are looking for a postdoc for a project funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The project focuses on uncovering molecular mechanisms of paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy (PIPN) using a novel cell culture model. The postdoc will work on a comprehensive translational research program combining advanced human iPSC-derived co-culture models, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics of patient skin biopsies, and mechanistic pathway validation. The overarching aim is to identify previously unknown molecular drivers of PIPN and explore their potential as therapeutic targets.

Your primary responsibilities:

  • Lead experimental work in iPSC culture, mono- and co-culture systems, and functional neurotoxicity assays
  • Perform and coordinate transcriptomic and spatial-omic analyses in collaboration with external partners
  • Conduct CRISPRi-based pathway perturbation assays
  • Analyze and interpret complex molecular datasets in close collaboration with bioinformatic experts
  • Contribute to scientific publishing and dissemination of project results
  • Supervise students and contribute to teaching activities at SDU
  • Participate in collaborative meetings with clinical, translational, and bioinformatic project partners
  • Contribute to research group activities, including grant writing and scientific discussions

Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate with a PhD in pharmacology, neuroscience, biomedicine, molecular biology, or a related discipline, preferably with hands-on experience in cell-based experimental work. While relevant methodological expertise is an advantage, motivation, curiosity, and a strong drive to excel in translational research are more important than any specific technical background. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English is a requirement. The position includes independent scientific writing and supervision of students. You should be interested in contributing both to the scientific armamentarium in our department and to our collegial culture. It is also expected that the postdoc contributes to additional fundraising for the projects and takes on teaching responsibilities within the department.

You will, in your daily work, refer to Professor Tore B. Stage, but also engage in a very active collaboration with the full research group.

Contact information

Additional information about the position can be obtained from the Head of the Research Unit, professor Tore B. Stage at tstage@health.sdu.dk or 0045 65503678.
