Research Assistant in Structural Engineering and Statistics

SDU Civil and Architectural Engineering (CAE) invites applications for a short-term position as Research Assistant in Structural Engineering, with a focus on experimental and statistical modelling related to the structural reuse of timber structures. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be part of the SDU Structures research group. As a part of the role, the candidate will contribute significantly to the completion of the project “reuse of timber trusses and other timber structures”. The project is conducted in collaboration with several industrial partners and aims to develop experimental and statistical evidence for reuse of structural timber.

The candidate will conduct experiments in the SDU Structures laboratory and will be responsible for developing the statistical analysis required to evaluate the experimental results, providing evidence that the industrial partners can use to design and verify structural reuse timber roof structures similar to those tested in the laboratory.

Qualifications

The successful candidate is expected to have:

  • Knowledge and experience with conducting experiments and establishing probabilistic evidence on the basis of experiments.
  • Master’s degree (equivalent to a Danish master’s degree) in Structural Engineering
  • A strong educational background in structural engineering
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken)

Conditions of employment
The appointment as a research assistant is temporary for a 5-month period, and the preferred start date is as soon as possible, which will be agreed with the successful candidate. The position is currently open.

Employment as a research assistant requires qualifications at minimum master’s level (equivalent to a Danish master’s degree) at the time of employment. Employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state including the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for research assistant as described therein. Further information on salary and taxation. Persons employed in the position may, based on a specific individual managerial assessment, be exempted from time registration, also known as a “self-organizer”.
