The Department for **Sequencing and Bioinformaticsat Statens Serum Institut (SSI) is looking for a senior Linux system administrator for developing, maintaining, running, monitoring and optimizing our HPC virtual private cloud bioinformatics compute platforms.

The Department of Sequencing and Bioinformatics at Statens Serum Institut (SSI) is central to Denmark’s infectious disease preparedness, with shaping and building key IT infrastructure, cutting-edge sequencing laboratories, surveillance activities, and translational research capabilities. Our interdisciplinary team works at the forefront of bacterial genomics, pathogen surveillance, and microbial ecology. You will collaborate closely with a team of ~30 bioinformaticians, developers, microbiologists, lab technicians, biochemists, and system administrators.

About our work and your role in it
As our senior system administrator you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, upgrading and managing our compute platforms used for research and national surveillance to the standard of your SSI colleauges as well as to the general public. You will work with an “infrastructure as code” approach based on ansible and github.

Your tasks will include, among other things:

  • Day-to-day operations of our HPC systems and lab computers including user management, system health and resource usage monitoring, job management and problem-solving
  • Offering and maintaining a range of user software tools both in the form of web services and from command line
  • Develop, test and deploy ansible scripts for installing and maintaining our software and setup on HPC systems, including designing and deploying on new HPC systems
  • Data transfer automation between our systems
  • Data access management incl. sharing outside of SSI
  • Communication with the Danish Agency for Governmental IT Services
  • 2ndlevel user support for bioinformaticians

Your background
We expect you to have a master degree in computer science and experience with Linux system administration and to master all layers of a Linux system from hardware, operating system, file systems, network protocols, access control, IT security, system services to end user applications. You must also have a certain level of expertise on code and development tools to deploy and maintain continously changing bioiformatics- and scientfic software.

Experience and qualities that will help you succeed in the position:

  • Knowledge of the Computerome, Delphi and NGC virtual private cloud platforms
  • Ability to create structure in varied and complex tasks
  • Committed and take responsibility for your tasks
  • Quality-conscious and detail-oriented
  • Extensive knowledge of Redhat/Rocky Linux, Debian/Ubuntu Linux, ansible, git+github, systemd, dnsmasq, haproxy, galaxy, irida, rstudio, jupyterhub, slurm, conda, python, and grafana+prometheus
  • Thrive in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Speaks both Danish and English

Terms of employment
Depending on your educational background and level of experience, salary and appointment terms will be based on the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC) (overenskomst for akademikere i staten).

The position is temporary, full-time (2-year contract).
