The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences invites applications for a part-time position as teaching assistant professor in Companion Animal Soft Tissue Surgery, starting 15 July 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The teaching assistant professor of companion animal soft tissue surgery will be joining the research group of Neurology, Companion Animal Surgery and Rehabilitation in the Section for Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging, Companion Animal Surgery, and Clinical Specialties. The focus of the position is on pre-graduate and post-graduate clinical teaching and service in Companion Animal Surgery. The candidate will become part of a group of highly dedicated and enthusiastic surgical clinicians and researchers with a strong network of leading national and international veterinary specialists.

You are expected to work as a primary responsible within soft tissue surgery, with a particular emphasis on teaching. You are expected to manage a wide range of both primary care cases and referral cases, such as advanced oncological, abdominal, and thoracic explorative and endoscopic surgeries, among others, and to guide junior staff in managing their cases as needed.

As Teaching assistant Professor, you will:

  • Plan, coordinate, deliver and develop teaching and teaching materials in companion animal surgery at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Participate in propadeutical and clinical teaching incl. contributing to integration of new technology in surgery simulation models in the new UCPH Center for Veterinary Simulation
  • Develop teaching materials, including patient-based case resources, online teaching modules, and examination formats.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and the implementation of innovative, digital, and case-based learning approaches.
  • Act as course responsible for relevant courses at both pre- and postgraduate levels.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and be encouraged to pursue further clinical specialization.

In considering applications for the position, the main emphasis will be on the applicant´s ability to document teaching experience at a specialized level in companion animal surgery. In addition, experience with the development of online teaching materials and the application of digital platforms is an advantage. The teaching assistant professor is required to undertake and complete the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen assistant professor pedagogical degree (“Adjunktpædagogikum”).

Teaching tasks may include pregraduate and postgraduate clinical instruction, lectures, workshops, course responsibility, supervision of bachelor and veterinary theses as well as postgraduate masters’ projects. In addition, the applicant is expected to further develop the clinical companion animal surgery service, as well as develop teaching materials based on animal patient cases and implement online teaching, teaching materials, and exam formats for both pre- and postgraduate teaching in companion animal surgery. In addition, the applicant is expected to participate in the development, teaching and examination in the postgraduate Master’s in Companion Animal Surgery program. The successful applicant may also support the research activities in the group.

Key criteria for the assessment of applicants
Applicants must have a master’s degree in veterinary medicine (DVM). The candidate must hold a Danish authorization to practice veterinary medicine in Denmark or be able to obtain this authorization upon admission.

We are looking for applicants with competencies in the following areas:

  • Documented clinical experience from a specialized companion animal clinic/hospital and experience with after hours on call duty.
  • Documented broad experience in diagnostics and therapy/surgery of surgical cases. Applicants who have completed a companion animal internship will be preferred.
  • Interest in teaching, with strong pedagogical skills and preferably documented teaching experience.

Other important criteria are:

  • Clinical experience within surgical oncology and/or minimally invasive surgery.
  • Possible research experience within veterinary surgery, and a strong interest within endoscopic oncology surgery research.
  • A curious mind-set with a strong interest in developing skills within soft tissue surgery and minimally invasive techniques, as well as research within supporting technologies.
  • Ability to communicate with pet owners in Danish/Scandinavian
  • The candidate must have a strong overview, be able to independently plan his/her own tasks in collaboration with colleagues and students, and have experience in clinical practice workflow planning
  • Additionally, the candidate should possess good communication skills, be proactive, have strong teamwork abilities, and be comfortable working as part of a team
  • Holder of Danish Veterinary authorization to practice or be able to obtain this within 3 months

The place of employment is at Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Frederiksberg Campus, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 18.5 hours per week.

The position is a permanent position. The start date is 15 July 2026, or after agreement. We expect the candidate to be interested in extending the employment in order to be involved in relevant research activities within small animal surgery.

Salary, pension, and terms of employment are in accordance with the agree­ment between the Ministry of Taxation and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
