Associate Professor of Quantum Technologies
Niels Bohr Institute - NQCP
Faculty of Science

University of Copenhagen

The Niels Bohr Institute announces the availability of 3-5 Associate Professor positions within the Novo Nordisk Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP). The NQCP mission to develop fault tolerant quantum computing processors requires the interplay of several research teams. All NQCP research teams collaborate closely and use their research expertise to build up capabilities which enables the NQCP pilot lines finding paths to fault tolerant quantum computing architectures.

Role descriptions
The leads of the NQCP research teams are part of the backbone of the NQCP programme and each team lead heads a research group. We seek leads at the associate professor level for several of the NQCP teams including the Theory and Simulations team, the Neutral Atoms team, the Spin qubit team, the Intra- and Inter-connects team and leads within the Applications and Algorithms team.

Qualifications
We imagine that you are assistant professor and that you have established an individual research profile within the area of the relevant NQCP team. You have built up an independent research group, has experience with project management and a personal drive to lead part of a large-scale mission driven research project.

At this point in your career, you are highly motivated to lead a team which advances quantum computing by establishing reliable quantum computing capabilities that enters a large mission driven effort. As team lead and part of a large-scale mission driven program, you thrive in the cross field between fundamental research and technological development. You enjoy supervising and teaching and using your excellent communication skills to inspire the coming generation develop the same deep passion you have for quantum technology. You always have an eye out for possible industrial spin-offs and deep desire to ensure that your research come to the benefit of people and society.

Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.

Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for an overall assessment of the candidates. Furthermore, each candidate must be assessed according to the specific requirements stated in the job advertisement.
