The Department of Clinical Medicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in the field of Immunology and infectious diseases as per 1 May 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 22 months.

Department of Clinical Medicine

As an assistant professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, you will be part of what is probably the largest health science research department in Denmark. Our clinical research covers all the medical specialities and takes place in close collaboration with the university hospital and the regional hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. We have approx. 30,000 square metres of modern research facilities for experimental surgery and medicine, animal facilities and also advanced scanners at our disposal. The department has overall responsibility for the Master's degree programs in medicine and in molecular medicine. At the department we are approx. 425 academic employees and the same number of PhD students cooperating across disciplines. As an assistant professor, you will be working on Aarhus University Hospital or another hospital in the Central Denmark Region. Your job responsibilities

As an Assistant Professor of immunology and infectious diseases your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, and you will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues. The position of Assistant Professor is a career development position in which you will receive supervision and pedagogical upgrading.

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Independent research of high international quality, including publication.
  • Teaching, guidance and examination of Bachelor’s and Master's degree students, as well as possibly supervision of PhD students.
  • Some degree of contribution towards attracting external research funding.
  • Evaluating vaccine responses in helminth infected individuals.
  • Driving extracellular vesicles research within helminth infection, vaccination and drug delivery applications.
  • Contributing to research in worm induced immune modulation, including trained innate immunity.

You will report to the Professor Peter Nejsum.

Your competences

You have independent research-related qualifications at a high international level. You are a clear communicator and you have some degree of experience of supervision and teaching at Bachelor’s and Master's degree level. We draw attention to completed pedagogical courses in supervision or similar, as well as experience with the establishment of PhD courses and external research collaborations.

The following will be considered an advantage:

  • Experience in teaching and supervision of students within extracellular vesicles and/or parasitology
  • Strong understanding of extracellular vesicle, immunology and helminth biology
  • Competencies in aspects of extracellular vesicle isolation and characterization, including proteomics
  • Ability to work within international and interdisciplinary research projects
  • Experience with applications and attracting funds for research projects

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University arranges Danish teaching.
