Python Software Developer - Public Health Bioinformatics at SSI
Do you enjoy Python development, data pipelines, and public health informatics? Join the Sequencing and Bioinformatics Department at Statens Serum Institut (SSI) to strengthen Denmark’s infectious disease preparedness through software innovation.
Your new role and impact
As a software developer at the Sequencing and Bioinformatics department at SSI, you will help drive and implement the development of our data processing pipelines for public health surveillance. You will be working with a dedicated team to develop, deploy and maintain both the software and workflow framework for processing of biological sequence data into useful representations for public health decisions.
About our work and your role in it
You will join our bioinformatics team, developing and maintaining analytical tools and pipelines that support public health work. Our tools are primarily built in Python, and experience with Python package development is expected. Knowledge of Jupyter notebooks, Snakemake, Galaxy, or IRIDA is an advantage.
We manage our code using Git and GitHub (https://github.com/ssi-dk), so experience with version control is required. The work mainly takes place on Linux-based HPC systems operated by our bioinformatics team; familiarity with Linux is expected, and HPC experience is a plus.
You will collaborate closely with a team of over 20 bioinformaticians, developers, and system administrators. Experience with Software architecture, bioinformatics, public health and project management are valued additions.
About you
You have an academic background, for example in programming or engineering with strong skills in software development.
Our expectations:
- You are a dedicated person who takes responsibility for your work
- You have initiative and skill to drive tasks forward without having to be told what to do
- You own your work from design to deployment, applying strong problem-solving skills to identify issues, propose solutions, and see them completed
- You enjoy working with others as well as on your own
- Your work should be structured and documented for colleagues
If you can see yourself in this role, but you’re not sure you meet all the requirements, we still want to hear from you.
