Senior Researcher in Natural Product Chemistry

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a position as Senior Researcher in Natural Product Chemistry is open for appointment from 1 June 2026 or soon hereafter.

Your work tasks     
We are looking for an independent, flexible, motivated, and service minded Senior Researcher who will primarily provide research support within biophysical methods, with particular focus on mass spectrometry (MS). The position involves collaboration with researchers in various internally and externally funded research projects.
While the main focus will be on research support and the operation of advanced laboratory infrastructure, the position also includes teaching responsibilities. Additionally, there will be opportunities to establish and lead your own research activities. In close collaboration with colleagues across the department, the position holder will contribute to maintaining and further developing an infrastructure that delivers state of the art technologies.
Tasks and Responsibilities

The work tasks will include, among other things:

• Management and operation of the department’s biophysical technology platforms, including MS facilities
• Support for users (students, staff, and visiting researchers) with sample preparation, measurements, and data analysis
• Participation in maintaining laboratory safety, including handling of equipment and chemicals
• Teaching duties relevant to the department
• Performing relevant administrative tasks
• Participation in daily laboratory operations, including purchasing and other shared tasks that ensure a well functioning laboratory
• Establishment and leadership of own research activities

Your Competencies

The ideal candidate has:

• Experience with chemistry, biotechnology, or related fields.
• Practical experience in the use and maintenance of MS equipment.
• Experience in the analysis and interpretation of MS data.
• Experience in research and experimental planning.
• Experience in research funding or contributing significantly to funding applications
• Experience with other technological platforms at the department, e.g. NMR, CD, ITC, and protein purification.
• Excellent oral and written English language skills are a requirement

Qualification requirementsAppointment as senior researcher requires research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be achieved through the satisfactory completion of a period of employment as researcher but may also be obtained in other ways.

It is a precondition that applicants have documented research at an international standard. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications.
