At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a position as Senior Researcher in High-Throughput Long-read DNA Analysis of Environmental Samples is open for appointment from 1 June 2026 or soon hereafter.
Your work tasks
The Senior Researcher is expected to maintain and develop the high-throughput DNA sequencing laboratory at Department of Chemistry and Bioscience at Aalborg University. This includes developing and maintaining the newest long-read sequencing technologies such as Oxford Nanopore and high-throughput downscaled library preparation for short-read sequencing.
The position will be anchored in Center for Microbial Communities with approx. 50 scientists at various career levels, working with structure and function of microbial communities, primarily related to environmental microbiology and biotechnology. Additionally, there will be opportunities to establish and lead your own research activities.
Some teaching may be included, primarily in the use of DNA sequencing in microbiology and environmental biotechnology, but also in other study-programs at the University.
Your CompetenciesThe successful candidate must have documented expertise in large-scale long-read metagenome projects within environmental genomics. This includes development of wet-lab protocols, sequencing, associated bioinformatics and usage of HPC SLURM clusters. Furthermore, the candidate must have excellent oral and written English communication skills and be highly motivated to work in an interdisciplinary research environment
Qualification requirementsAppointment as senior researcher requires research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be achieved through the satisfactory completion of a period of employment as researcher but may also be obtained in other ways.
It is a precondition that applicants have documented research at an international standard. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications.
