A position as Vascular Surgeon (Surgeon/ Afdelingslæge) at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital, Denmark, is available from the 1 of June 2026.

The Department of Vascular Surgery is expanding due to increasing activity, why we are looking for an experienced vascular surgeon. The department serves 1.85 million citizens in the Capital Region of Denmark. It covers the full spectrum of vascular diseases and functions as a national referral center for several conditions, including mesenteric vascular disease, complex aortic repair, and acute central deep venous thrombosis.

The department is part of the Heart Center and leads the Copenhagen Aortic Center in collaboration with the departments of cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery. Here, patients with advanced and complex aortic disease from across Denmark are treated.

We perform more than 6,500 surgical procedures annually and see approximately 15,000 patients in the outpatient clinic. You will join a team consisting of 2 professors, 14 consultants, 4 surgeons, and 16 vascular surgeons in training, as well as 5 PhD students. Together with 80 nurses and administrative staff, the team provides high-quality vascular care.

The department operates two hybrid operating room, two open operating rooms (with C-arm access), and one angio suite daily. The outpatient clinic is staffed by surgeons and specialized nurses trained in advanced ultrasound. The department also includes a 32-bed ward.

We are looking for a vascular surgeon, experienced in both basic and selected advanced vascular treatments. Experience with both open and endovascular procedures is a requirement. Interest in research and documented ongoing activity is also a requirement.

Applicants are expected to participate in and show interest in continued medical education, research, and innovation projects. Approved Danish board certification in vascular surgery is required before employment. In addition, candidates must pass the Danish language exam 3 within 12 months of employment.

The position includes on-call duties, with a minimum of five shifts per month.

Salary and terms of employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement for consultants concluded between the Danish Regions' Salary and Tariff Board and the Danish Medical Association.
