Academic Researcher in Ancient Environmental DNA - UCPH

Globe Institute at The University of Copenhagen is looking for an academic employee with effect from 1 November 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.

About us
AEGIS is a pioneering research center headed by professor Eske Willerslev that brings together a highly interdisciplinary team of world-leading researchers with a shared vision of developing more robust, sustainable, and biodiverse cropping systems to mitigate the effects of climate change on global food production.

Tasks
Central in the AEGIS consortium we have established a semi-automated laboratory infrastructure for high-throughput production of metagenomic sequencing data from ancient sediments and other environmental samples. A 3-year academic position is open in the wet lab data production team for participating in the weekly data production, as well as maintenance, troubleshooting and development of systems and methods.

We are looking for an enthusiastic employee with the following competencies and experience:

Relevant academic degree (MSc) within bioscience, or engineering, with hands-on experience with molecular biology and wet lab procedures, preferably aDNA or sedimentary eDNA.

Experience with automation preferably related to high-throughput sequencing.

Self-motivated personality and genuinely interested in automation and methods development.

An independent, rational, and pragmatic mindset promoting collaboration and solutions.

Highly organized personality with strong attention to detail with demonstrated skills in troubleshooting.

Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English (optionally Danish).

Terms of salary and employment
The employment and salary is made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Employment will be as academic employee. The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time are 37 hours per week on average. The working hours are flexible.
