Copenhagen Business School (CBS) invites applications for the position of Head of Department, Business Humanities and Law (BHL), starting 1 December 2025.

About the position
The Head of Department (HoD) is responsible for the strategic, academic, and administrative leadership of BHL. The role is fully dedicated to leadership and does not normally include teaching or research. The HoD works closely with CBS Senior Management and plays a central role in shaping CBS’ overall strategy.

With 90 faculty members, 22 PhD students, 8 administrative staff and around 120 external lecturers, BHL brings together law, social sciences and humanities to address fundamental questions of ethics, responsibility, governance and the societal role of business. The HoD will drive integration across disciplines, strengthen research excellence, renew education, and enhance the department’s external visibility and societal impact.

Your key responsibilities

  • Strategic and academic leadership of BHL in alignment with CBS’ vision Transforming Society with Business
  • Fostering high-quality, interdisciplinary research and educational innovation
  • Recruiting, developing and supporting academic and administrative staff, with strong focus on diversity and inclusion
  • Securing external funding and building strong partnerships with societal stakeholders
  • Ensuring a healthy, collaborative and inclusive work environment

What we are looking for
We seek an internationally recognised researcher in one of BHL’s fields, with proven leadership experience in academic or research settings. The successful candidate brings:

  • Documented experience in research and educational leadership
  • Ability to manage complex organisations, budgets and resources
  • Strong communication skills and international outlook
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • A visible and approachable leadership style that fosters collaboration and well-being

Terms of employment

  • Time-limited position (typically 6 years, with possible extension)
  • Salary according to the Danish collective agreement, with additional allowances subject to negotiation
  • The HoD reports to Deputy President, Inger Askehave
